I like November 💖🍂

October is lovely, but I like November too. October is beautifully golden. In November there is less green, the colours are less bright, there aren't as many leaves and there is more brown and grey. It's colder, but a warm coat and some gloves go a long way!

It's still lovely, just different. What do you think?

The first photo I took in a tiny wood in my village. The second photo is of a beautiful tree round the corner from my house, and the third photo is of socks I am knitting. I chose the yarn because of its autumn colours, and it's just like the colours in the first two photos! This is a little thing I'm trying 🧶🖌️🪡

There's an expectation that when we feel tired, grumpy, frazzled or fed up, we push through it. But although there is some satisfaction in tackling a mountain of laundry or a huge pile of washing up, or picking up all the shoes again, I'm not convinced that's the best way to deal with it.

So instead, when I feel like that, I'm taking 10 minutes to do something I enjoy.

At the moment it's knitting socks. I have rediscovered sock knitting mostly thanks to a post by @lostartsofnature where there was a basket of knitting. It gave me an overwhelming urge to start knitting socks again! The yarn I'm using is just like outside at the moment, brown and green and grey.

And guess what? It's working! All I need is 10 minutes and my knitting, and the grumpies fade away enough to no longer be a problem ☺️🧶💖

I encourage you to try it if you haven't already!

If you like the idea of socks, @arnecarlos easiest sock in the world really is easy. Otherwise you might prefer granny squares, embroidery or drawing.

If you do this already, I'd love to know what creative thing you do that works as a mood fixer! 💖☺️

I've seen November described as the tough person's October 💪🍂🍁

The days are shorter and it's dark in the evenings now, and it's colder. The footpaths in my village are starting to get muddy and the flowers are mostly over.

I know some people really don't like the gloom and the cold, but I love it!

In the pictures:

I only noticed how much green there still is when I was looking at the photos!

I love my fire, but my daft white cat has singed her whiskers 🐈

Self striping yan means I can knit socks without getting bored or having a lot of ends to weave in.

My youngest boy would not be having elevenses of toasted teacakes and hot chocolate if he was at school, which in my opinion is another argument for home ed!

Obviously I can't just have one project on the go! This one is a hot water bottle cover

Leaf rubbings 🍂🍁🧡

I didn't think the results would be quite so messy!

I was expecting a neat leaf with clear patches of colour. Perhaps it would have turned out like that if I had used wax crayons instead 🤔 Soft pastels are really messy!

It took 5 or 6 versions of leaf rubbings, including a couple in unrealistic colours (ie blue!) to make me realise I actually liked the results. And although I don't like saying it, I almost didn't share the results because they are not even close to perfect. They are wild and messy.

After I decided that the blue one looked like flowers, I realised that the ones in realistic colours looked like flames. And that's exactly what autumn leaves are like, and why we like them 🍁🍂
