This felt like a maths problem! 🤔

Flowers aren't usually square. Cherry blossom is most definitely not square. I'd already taken artistic license by giving them 6 petals when I'm pretty sure they only have 5!

To turn my crocheted cherry blossom into a square, I needed numbers that could be grouped in 4s. 6 was an issue, until I realised that I could treat each petal as 2 halves, and then I had enough numbers to put into 4 groups!

So every third half became a corner.

The sides only have 2 trebles in each chain space, not 3, because when I did that the results were frilly 🌸🌸🌸 2 chain spaces make the sides, so they have 2 trebles in each joined by 1 chain, then the corners have two lots of trebles joined by 3 chains.

The last round was a normal granny square round, with 3 trebles in each chain space, and two lots of 3 with 3 chains in between in the corners.

Everything's green, there's blossom, and although it's not exactly warm, it's not freezing! 🌱🌸🌞

I wanted to make something inspired by spring. Last year I crocheted granny squares in spring colours. I didn't make very many, so I still have most of the yarn.

After a little bit of experimenting, I've come up with a pattern for crocheted cherry blossom. Would you like it? 🌞🌸💖

Ok...

🌸 Make a magic ring, or crochet 4 chains and join them with a ss.

🌸 Crochet 4 chains, then dc into the ring (sc if you are American). Then work 3 chains then 1 dc into the ring 5 times, then join with a ss.

🌸 If you are using a second colour, now is the time to change colours. Join the yarn and work 3 chains, then 3tr and 1dc into one of the chain spaces. Into the next chain space, make 1dc, 3tr and 1dc (1sc, 3dc and 1sc in US terms). Do that 5 times in total, so you make a little petal into each of the chain spaces. Join with a ss.

You should have 1 crocheted cherry blossom! 🌸💖

My favorite artist's date 🌸💖🌱🌞

Doing the same route can get, well, samey! But on the other hand, it's lovely to notice the seasons changing.

It's all green here now, and there's blossom, where just a few weeks ago it was grey, muddy and bleak.

It's hard not to feel inspired! Going for a walk is probably the easiest way to have an artist's date, right on your doorstep.

...you don't have to wear it! Or use it, or eat it. Or put up with it just because when you were younger someone told you that you should. You're a grown up. You can decide.

If you've made something for yourself and you don't like it, there are other options besides wearing it feeling and comfortable, or not wearing it and feeling guilty.

You could:

🌸See if you can identify what you don't like. It might be possible to make some changes to it to make it wearable

🌸Give it to somebody you know would love it

🌸 Find it a new home via a clothes swap

🌸Unpick it and turn it into something else

There's also no need to feel guilty!

Did you learn something? Or practice a skill? Or prove to yourself that you could do something you thought you couldn't?

Then nothing has been wasted 🌸💖🌸💖
