During one of my sortouts I discovered this hideous cushion that had been a Christmas present a few years ago. I’d completely forgotten about it, due to it being horrible and because it doesn’t “go” with anything at all in our house.
The cushion pad was easy to reuse. All it needed was a cover and the boys needed some cushions for the chair in their room, so that was easy! I made a cushion with a bus on it because their room has a transport theme. Β The cushion was actually featured in this month’sΒ Sewing World.Β I was very happy!
What to do with the cover was harder. It is truly hideous, tie dyed shells with sequins in the middle, whoever thought that would look nice? Somebody I suppose, but not me.
It seemed wrong to throw it out though. It was perfectly fine apart from being disgusting. So anyway, I was making a load of drawstring bags for the boys’ clobber (actually Boy 1 was making the bags π ) and I had a brainwave! How about making the cushion cover into a drawstring bag?
I set about removing the zip, which was thankfully at the top of the cushion. I’ve now got a nice long navy blue zip for something, hooray! I folded the top down and sewed along it to make the casing, threaded some ribbon through using a safety pin and ta-dah! A cushion cover drawstring bag. I’ve put Boy 3’s marble run in it. I just need to put some of theirΒ junkΒ stuff in the others now and there will be less mess on the floor!
That’s lovely, what a great idea and it looks wonderful! I need to think about storing more things in drawstring bags, they are so much easier to find a home for than boxes because you can hang them out the way and they squash into the space. I need to have a hunt for things that I could re-purpose!
